Salmon Arm, B.C. — The Salmon Arm Silverbacks are thrilled to announce that captain Hunter Sansbury has committed to play NCAA Div. I hockey at Sacred Heart University.

The Lomita, CA native is in his second season with the Backs, and recorded 24 points as a rookie last year from the back end, which ranked second on the team for defencemen. His 24 points last season were top-10 amongst rookie defencemen in the BCHL and his 15 power play points were top-10 amongst all defencemen in the BCHL.

“Ever since I was five-years-old and started picking up a stick and started playing, my dream was to play Division-I hockey, so this was really surreal,” Sansbury said. “I’ve been talking to Sacred Heart for a couple years now and I felt like it was somewhere I could call home for four years. The program has only been going up and I see them still building, so it was definitely something that I wanted to be part of.

“I want to thank my mom and dad — they’ve been my rock and my heroes growing up and they’ve always been there for me and they’ve always believed in me. Also all the coaches I’ve ever played for and my friends and family who have supported me along the way. Definitely want to thank the coaching staff here because they truly believed in me and have really helped develop my game.”

“We are super proud and super happy for Sansbury and his family,” Silverbacks head coach Tyler Shattock said. “His demeanour and overall character is outstanding. He’s a guy that always wants to be on the ice and wants to learn. He’s just a top-tier kid. I think Sacred Heart is getting a guy that is going to be a real impactful guy on and off the ice.”

The Sacred Heart Pioneers compete in the Atlantic Hockey conference with 10 other teams.
